ACIDIC HOT SPRINGS IN YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK
We have cultured numerous isolates of Sulfolobus from sites like these in the Norris Geyser Basin and Crater Hills regions of Yellowstone National Park (photographs by Brian Kinkle, Department of Biological Sciences). The water ranges from 60 to 90o C, with pH values of 2 to 5 (and smells pretty bad). [return to Grogan Lab]
